Journeys to Justice: Civil Rights in North Carolina

The Archives Week theme and date has been announced! The SNCA Archives Week will be  October 22-28. The theme “Journeys to Justice: Civil Rights in North Carolina” includes more than the Civil Rights movement of the 1960′s. Women’s rights, African-American rights, the rights of the LGBTQ society, as well as immigrants, Native American groups, and so many other people can be considered when planning an archives week program centered around “civil rights.”

Let us know what collections you have relating to Civil Rights, how we can help you plan a program, or if you have images that we can use for our Archives Week poster and bookmark. Leave a comment or email archives_week@ncarchivists.org.

Let’s make this the best Archives Week yet and show our communities that we hold their stories!

When: Oct. 24 – Nov. 30, 2011

Guilford College’s Friends Historical Collection is commemorating the Civil War theme by highlighting the experiences of Quaker conscientious objectors from 1861 – 1865. A small exhibit will be placed in the Friends Historical Collection and its online resources on the subject will be expanded with additions to the “North Carolina Quakers and the Civil War” online collection. This collection began with the digitization of the John B. Crenshaw Papers in 2005 through an NC-ECHO LSTA grant and continues as a growing resource.
